Barns
You can find so many kinds of barns in Alberta, but one of the most common is the "hip-roof" red barn. The next time you go for a drive in the country, tally how many colors of barns you can see. How many Red? Brown? White? Yellow? Other colors? These barns are for cattle. The lower part of the barn is used for cattle stalls and calf pens. The loft, the top part of the barn, is filled with hay or straw bales. Find poultry barns, pig barns, or horse barns (stables) as you drive along the countryside. We have so many exotic animals kept here in Alberta. What types of barns do they have? Llama? Elk? Bison? Emu? Ostrich? Even our "green" crops occasionally have barn-like structures. This greenhouse keeps the flower and vegetable crops protected from the winter weather.
Mushrooms are grown in a barn-building. What about the tree farms? Are there barns for the trees? I don't have pictures of all the different types of barns in Alberta, but if you have a photo that you would like to share with me, please write me an email letter and we'll try and get it on our Barn page here. Crumbling old barns can be found all over Alberta.
