Turkeys "Gobble, gobble, gobble!" the sound of the turkeys. When you read the turkey gobble words, make sure that you read them very fast, "Gobble, gobble, gobble." It also helps if you shake your head while you're saying them so the words run into each other. Start your voice up high and come down lower as you say the words. Now you've got the turkey sound. These are very interesting birds! They really like to show off for company and "strut". For a strut, the males fluff their feathers, pump their body circulation and pull their long tail feathers up into a huge fan! Then they walk in proud, haughty steps - a few one way, then turn back again. They think they are quite fancy! When they've finished the strut, they pull their feathers back again. Look at these three pictures to see how much bigger their body seems to get in the strut! It's a defense mechanism and mating draw to see who is the most handsome of all.
You can see that turkeys can be either black or white. Notice the brilliant colors on this turkey's huge wattles!
